Crate TX15 Taxi Battery Power Instrument/Microphone Combo Amplifier (15 Watts, 1x8 in.)
The Crate Taxi provides everything you need to perform when you're far from any source of electricity.
Feature: For the money, its features are more than adequate. A simple reverb option would be a nice addition.
Quality: Well built and sturdy so far.
Value: Until they fix the preamp problems this box is only good for basic portable announcing.
Desirability: Good, practical design.
Sound: Tweaking the 4 band EQ will improve the sound quite a bit. But there's a fairly serious weakness: Low frequencies, say from the bottom strings of a guitar, cause higher frequencies to be suppressed. So, for instance, if you strum a chord on the guitar, you'll notice the upper strings are barely heard. The vocal mic is also suppressed. I've been in contact with Crate and they admit it's a design issue.
Support: Quick response from the CS department regarding the sound problem. But no resolution yet. We'll see...
Overall: I'm going to try the top of the line "Limo" version of this series. I'm hoping it doesn't use the same preamp stage as the TX15
